ASIA’S SUPERSTAR

Li Na who is probably Asia’s biggest superstar as far as the professional tennis is concerned would not feature in the first edition of the International Premier League Tennis.

This is obviously not good news for the Asian people who love the game, but, Li has her own reasons to keep herself away from that tournament.

She wants to become the top ranked player in the world and thus, is more focussed on the bigger events like the Grand Slams.

The timing at which the Premier League is going to be organized is a bit awkward. It will start towards the end of November and will finish in the second week of December.

Most of the professional players especially who are in top 10 don’t like to play any tournament during that period. They give themselves a bit of rest and try to get freshened up for the next season.

So, the schedule of the league might also have played a key part in Li’s decision of not participating in it.

As far as Li’s performance in the 2014 season is concerned, it’s been terrific. She has probably played the best tennis of her life in the last couple of months. She already has won two titles this season and if she continues playing this well, she should reach the top of the world rankings in a few months.

It’s Serena Williams who is the world no. 1 at the moment. Her position over there is quite strong. The American superstar has got almost 5000 ranking points more than Li.

If the Chinese player has to displace Serena from that position, she needs to continue the consistency that she has shown in the season so far.

The next event in which Li would be participating is the BNP Paribas Open.
