Li Na will not be able to play in an exhibition match against Caroline Wozniacki at Hong Kong because of the ankle injury that she had discovered while playing in the final match of the Australian Open earlier this year. Now, on Li Na’s place, Agnieszka Radwanska will compete with Wozniacki in that match.

Li Na is one among thefew Chinese professional tennis players having won 5 World Tennis Associations and almost 19 ITF single titles. Li Na also won the 2011 Australia Open and this made her the first player from an Asian country to appear in Grand Slam single finals. Li Na was born in the year 1982 ; one of the older tennis players and is presently ranked world number 8.
Between the year 1994-2004, that is a span of around ten years Li Na won around 20 women single titles. She was married to Jiang Shan who then became her professional coach for the game. After around three and quarter years she won her second WTA tour title which was in the year 2008. Alongside single tournaments, Li Na has also played double tournaments and she has won two WTA double tournaments and also 19 ITF events. Li Na also made an impact in the double entries with winning 16 ITF matches. However one disappointing feature of all her tournaments and matches is that she had a lot of injuries in her journey. These injuries also made her suffer a two year hiatus for completing in her 20’s and prevented her from playing for several periods. In the year 2005 she had an ankle injury and also lost matches.
Li Na started her season with the 2012 Hopman Cup where she won against Marion, Jarmila and Anabel The Li Na started her Australian Open Tournament by playing against Pervak, Olivia, Anabel and had a very tough time playing with Kim. After the disappointing Australian Cup, Li Na started her journey with the 2012 Fed Cup and won all matches I in the round robin stage. However at last she surrendered to the Frech Champion. However this made China come into the play offs. Li Na also took part in the 2012 Sony Ericsson Miami Open and got through the quarter finals.
French open champion Li Na was forced to retire from her first round match at the Open GDF Suez in Paris on Tuesday because of some severe back injury. At the time she was trailing Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 7-6, 3-2.
Li said that she was feeling a little bit pain in her left side, which is why she decided to quit the tournament. She confessed that when the match started she was okay but gradually her health started deteriorating and was left with no other option than to quit. It was very painful and the whole thing started suddenly.
Li Na played some of her best matches at Fed cup in Israel that helped her gain confidence and her form back after a long time away from the limelight. She was enjoying her current form and the injury has become yet another obstacle on her career path. Li Na has dropped to No 9 in the WTA ranking. Though she has dropped to No 9, she has no points to defend till May so should move up in the rankings if she returns to the LTA circuit soon.

Li Na wanted to make it three out of three at the Sydney International, having won it for the last two years, but it was not to be, as Victoria Azarenka snatched victory from the Asian in a three-set match that lasted for nearly two hours.
Li was on a fantastic run, having won the French Open in 2011 by defeating Kim Clijsters. The Belarusian, Azarenka, had a fantastic run at the Sydney International, having defeated Jelena Jankovic and Marion Bartoli before defeating Li in the finals. It was the ninth career WTA title for the world no. 3, defeating her 29-year old Chinese opponent 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
The Belarusian broke the Asian’s serve on three occasions in the first set and absolutely blitzed the first set. The first set was over in a shade over half an hour. At this point, it looked like Azarenka would cream Li Na, but it wasn’t going to be so. Li called her husband-cum-coach on to the court to get some tips.
This significantly improved her game in the second round. She broke Azarenka’s serve twice, during the fourth and sixth games, and snatched the set when the Belarusian struck a forehand wide. This brought the game level, with the third set promising to be a tight one.
